Our Curriculum Overview
A Commitment to Excellence
BRT Dance Academy aims at offering all our students a broad and balanced curriculum in the Kalakshetra style, this curriculum provides systematic training in technique, rhythm, and expression, guiding students toward a strong classical foundation.

Beginner Level
An introduction to Bharatanatyam focusing on basic postures, adavus, rhythm, and coordination, building a strong foundation with discipline and joy.
Dance Components
• Structured and progressive instruction in Adavus, encompassing all 12 classifications, with 5–10 variations per category, emphasizing alignment, rhythmic accuracy, coordination, and technical clarity.
Theory Components
• Study of foundational Sanskrit vocabulary and basic grammatical structures relevant to classical dance texts
• Overview of Indian dance history and mythology, with emphasis on narrative and symbolic frameworks
• Prescribed reading and recitation of selected ślokas from the Nāṭyaśāstra and Abhinaya Darpaṇa to support theoretical understanding and applied expression

Intermediate Level
Students advance their technical proficiency through complex Adavus, foundational theory, introductory Abhinaya, and structured choreography. Training culminates in the learning of six dance items, fostering confidence and stage awareness, and leading to Salangai Pūja.
Dance Components
• Training in Nāṭya Aṅgas, including Māllari, Puṣpañjali, Kautuvam, Alarippu, Jāti Swarām, Śabdam, Padam, and Kīrtaṇam, focusing on technique, expression, and rhythmic precision.
Theory Components
• Study of Abhinaya, Identification of Styles, Bharathanatyam terms as well as the Thāḷa system and Paṇis, to build contextual and theoretical understanding of Bharatanatyam.

Advanced Level
Intensive guru-led training emphasizing mastery of technique, expressive depth, repertoire building, and classical authenticity.
Dance Components
• Mastery of Varnams, Kīrtaṇams, Javālis, Astapathis, and Tillānā, with opportunities for improvisation, emphasizing expression, rhythm, and stagecraft.
Theory Components
• Intermediate Nattuvāṅgam, in-depth study of Viniyogams, and individual research projects to deepen theoretical and analytical understanding.

Arangetram/Graduation
A complete guided artistic journey toward a student’s solo debut, encompassing rigorous training, repertoire completion with or without Live Orchestra, advanced level theory, stamina, and artistic maturity under guru mentorship.

Holistic training beyond technique — nurturing artistic identity, interpretative skills, discipline, and professionalism to evolve as a complete dance artist. Beyond Arangetram, dedicated dancers continue their artistic journey through advanced training, specialized repertoire, global performance opportunities, and the development of choreographic and teaching skills across all levels.
