BRT Academy of Dance & Music (BRT) which specializes in Kalakshetra Style of Bharathanatyam, founded in 2012, is Winnipeg-based dance institution dedicated to nurturing and promoting the rich traditions of South Indian Classical Dance “Bharathanatyam” co-founded by Guru Smt. Shylaja Ramprasath, a distinguished guru honored by the title Abhinaya Kala Jyothi, and in collaboration with Manohar Performing Arts. 

The name BhavaRagaTala – BRT was chosen as a conscious tribute to the foundational pillars of Indian classical performance – Bhava (emotion), Raga (melody), and Tala (rhythm). These three elements are not only the technical framework of Bharatanatyam and Carnatic music, but also represent the emotional, artistic, and spiritual dimensions of the art. 

Dance connects the soul and the body, guiding us closer to the divine. At our academy, we foster relationships that grow deep and last a lifetime.

To preserve, promote, and pass on the timeless traditions of Indian classical dance and music by providing high-quality, values-based education in Bharatanatyam. We strive to cultivate disciplined artists, inspire creative expression, and foster cultural pride among students of all ages and backgrounds.

Our mission is to provide students with a strong foundation in both the technical mastery and expressive depth of Bharathanatyam – one of the world’s most intricate and ancient classical art forms, known for its precise movements, elaborate footwork, graceful expressions, and storytelling through dance. Rooted in spiritual and cultural tradition, Bharathanatyam has been performed for over 2,000 years as a way of preserving and passing down sacred stories,
values, and philosophies.
